How does carbon offsetting for companies and organizations work?

Carbon offsetting for your business through ForTomorrow works by buying away EU emission rights from the industry without using them and cancel them. This will reduce the overall CO₂ emissions in the EU. The emissions trade is regulated by the European Union’s Emissions Trading System (EU-ETS) and is checked by for example the German Technical Inspection Agency (TUV).

In addition, we are planting climate-resilient mixed forest in Germany to filter CO₂ from the air. The German Bundeswaldgesetz from 1975 ensures that these forests are protected.

We are a non-profit organization. Your carbon offsetting with ForTomorrow is tax deductible.

How do we proceed with your carbon offsets?
1. You determine how much CO₂ you want to offset. It’s possible to offset a specific product, service or your company’s entire carbon footprint. Alternatively, you can make a general climate protection donation. If you need help calculating your CO₂ emissions, please contact us at any time.
2. You choose whether you want to offset CO₂ through afforestation in Germany or by cancelling EU emission rights. Of course, it is also possible to choose a combination of both measures.
3. Go to our form and select your CO₂ offsetting method. Enter the number of tonnes you want to offset.
4. You can now donate directly via the form. We recommend making a direct transfer to our bank account for donations over €5 000. You can find the details on the contact page.
5. After making your donation, you will immediately receive a confirmation email, your certificate and badges for your website. In the first quarter of each new calendar year, you will also receive a donation statement for the previous year. If you wish, you can also subscribe to our newsletter, which provides information about all our activities relating to the trees we plant and the emission rights we cancel.
How long does CO₂ offsetting take?

You can start immediately via the form for one-time donations. You will then automatically receive your certificate and badges for internal and external communication and we will immediately use the donation to cancel emission rights. We plant trees twice a year—once in spring and once in autumn.
Is your CO₂ offsetting compatible with the CSRD?

Under the CSRD, offsetting is a sub-topic that can be reported in various places in the sustainability report. Below you will find our CO₂ offsetting approaches with an assessment of the current situation.

1. CO₂ offsetting through the cancellation of EU emission rights: So far, this offsetting approach can only be included in the appendix of the CSRD-compliant sustainability report. Our aim is to enable companies to include this approach in the main body of the report. We are currently working on this and there could be some progress at the EU level in the near future.

2. CO₂ offsetting through the afforestation of mixed forests in Germany: This approach can be reported in the main section. It is important to note that third-party certification is required here, e.g. by the Plan Vivo Foundation. This certification incurs additional costs. However, it is worthwhile if a company wants to report CO₂ offsetting with ForTomorrow in its sustainability report and have it credited. Whether investing in certification through us makes sense, depends on the size of the project. The costs are usually flat-rate and therefore not as significant for large areas as they are for smaller afforestation projects.

3. CO₂ offsetting with biochar: We also offer CO₂ offsetting with biochar through ForTomorrow. Since biochar is EBC certified, it is possible to include this CO₂ offsetting approach in sustainability reports and claim credit for it. Biochar has the advantage of storing CO₂ for centuries.

Our principles apply to all approaches: effective, local and transparent. Depending on which of our CO₂ compensation approaches you choose, we will provide you with a detailed quote.

Your CO₂ compensation with ForTomorrow is effective and reliable

When you cancel EU emission rights with ForTomorrow, your CO₂ offset is guaranteed. EU emissions trading is regulated by the EU and monitored by TÜV. We work with the German Forest Protection Association on afforestation projects, and our forests in Germany are protected by the Federal Forest Act.
You offset CO₂ emissions locally in Europe

With ForTomorrow, you can offset your CO₂ emissions in Europe by planting mixed forests. You can visit the afforestation areas yourself. By cancelling EU emission rights, you are helping to drive forward the energy transition in Europe.
You may be able to deduct your CO₂ offsets from your taxes

We are a recognized German non-profit company. You will receive an official donation receipt when you offset your CO₂ emissions with us. Depending on your local tax regulations, you can simply submit the donation receipt with your next tax return and you can deduct your entire donation from your taxes.

Our prices reflect the high-quality climate protection impact of our measures in Europe. As a non-profit organization, we can use all of our donation income for climate protection. Money left over because your offset was cheaper than initially calculated? Then we will also invest this money in our climate protection measures.
