New roots for resilient terrain
In spring 2025, we planted young deciduous trees in Leubetha together with the SDW. The project is part of our Saxony-wide initiative, creating a total of 5.85 hectares of new forest. The site in Leubetha lies in a flood-prone area – here, the planted trees not only demonstrate their ecological value but also help make the terrain more resilient.
A sturdy wildlife fence protects the site, giving the young trees space to take root and grow into a thriving forest. The SDW carried out the planting and continues to care for the area – gradually transforming it into a resilient, healthy forest.
Our objectives for this site
- Protecting the climate, the soil, and our surroundings
- More forest to help reduce the impact of floods
- Improving quality of life – for people and wildlife in the region
- Enhancing the landscape and giving it new value
During the first check by the SDW in August 2025, initial results became visible: Despite drought stress, around 75% of the young trees have survived, and the site is already starting to develop into a healthy, resilient forest.
