New forest, new strength – for nature, climate, and water

Together with the Saxony branch of the Schutzgemeinschaft Deutscher Wald (SDW), we were able to bring new forest to life in Lauter in spring 2025. This site is part of a larger afforerstation effort, through which a total of 5.85 hectares of new woodland have been created across five regions in Saxony.

Here in particular, within a flood-prone area, the young forest plays an important role: by planting climate-resilient tree species, a diverse mixed forest is taking shape – one that not only provides habitat for many species, but also enriches the landscape and helps protect the region.

To give the young trees a safe start, the area is protected by a wildlife fence. The forest was planted by the SDW, which will also take care of its maintenance until at least 2030. This way, the new woodland has the time and care it needs to grow strong and resilient.

Our objectives for this site

  • Strengthening climate protection, soil conservation, and flood prevention
  • Expanding forest cover in a flood-prone area
  • Enhancing quality of life for local communities and boosting the region’s appeal
  • Enriching and revitalizing the landscape
