A new forest for climate, water, and biodiversity
In a joint planting campaign in spring 2025, numerous volunteers lent a hand – among them SDW of Saxony, volunteers, and the ForTomorrow team. In Leubsdorf, as part of the Saxony-wide reforestation project with SDW, a 1.3-hectare area was newly planted. On this floodplain area, a diverse and climate-resilient mixed forest is now taking root.
On April 12, 2025, the sixth ForTomorrow afforestation event took place here. Supporters and team members planted around 500 young trees by hand in the spring sunshine. The day was all about community spirit and climate action – and at the same time stood as a powerful symbol of effective local action.
To protect the young trees from wildlife, a fence was set up around the site. The SDW will look after the area until at least 2030 – including regular checks, maintenance work, and replanting if needed.
Our objectives for this site
- Climate protection, soil protection, and flood protection
- Forest expansion in a flood-prone area
- Improving the quality of life for the population and the attractiveness of the region
- Enhancing the landscape
An initial check a few weeks after the afforestation shows: Despite a dry period, the seedlings are developing well.
